Two historical Wilmette buildings were all but taken away this week.

While the Woman’s Club of Wilmette had a more dynamic ending with a Feb. 17 fire, the property of American Legion Huerter-Wilmette Post 46 at 1925 Wilmette Ave. was officially put up for sale.

With free-falling revenues for the past decade or more, Post 46 could no longer afford the estimated $20,000 a year it takes to fund the building, bar and grounds. Currently, Post 46 has less than 90 paying members, down from between 150-200 in the early 1990s.
