The Wilmette Police Department finished its investigation of a delayed report of a suspicious incident that occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the 1100 block of 15th Street.

According to a post on Nextdoor.com from Wilmette Police Officer Jon Sokolnik, a complainant reported that there was a suspicious dark-colored full-size van parked in front of their home. On Thursday night, Jan. 24, Sokolnik said on Nextdoor.com that the driver of the van had been identified. According to Sokolnik, the man had innocently pulled over to use his cell phone, which has been verified. No criminal intent or activity was involved.

"This is a good reminder to look for communication from the Village and Police on public safety issues as discussions in neighborhood social media platforms may inadvertently contain misinformation," Sokolnik said.
