UPDATE: The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death of a Wilmette resident as a suicide. The resident was taken to North Shore University Evanston Hospital and was pronounced dead there as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and the Wilmette Police Department. 

Reported earlier: A person was was shot at 5:27 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue according to the Wilmette Police Department.

Deputy Police Chief Patrick Collins initially told The Beacon that the person was transported to the hospital and "there is no danger to the public." 

Amid reports from residents of police activity in the area, including a helicopter near the scene, Collins said "no further information is being released at this time."
