A northbound Metra train struck a pedestrian this afternoon just south of the Wilmette Avenue station, according to Meg Reile of Metra.

Metra officials confirmed the male pedestrian is dead.

The Wilmette Police Department, which Reile said was taking lead on the incident, was not immediately available for comment.

Trains on the Union Pacific North line out of Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago were halted, Reile said, for a period of time, but were back in service as of 5:30 p.m.
