Sheridan Road, completed from Chicago to Lake Forest in 1900, was supposed to fulfill a vision: a grand driveway through the picturesque North Shore of Lake Michigan, “the Riviera of the west,” surpassing the world-famous driveways of New York, Paris, Berlin, and Vienna.
