Compared to many other states, the Illinois high school water polo scene is considerably new.

The Illinois High School Association’s first recognized state title was in 2001-2002, when Mother McAuley defeated Oak Park-River Forest to win the girls title and Fenwick defeated Brother Rice to win the boys championship.

So going to play water polo in college, like Loyola Academy graduate Marta Considine did at Bucknell University, can be quite the adjustment.
